🌬️ Day 79: Pause, Feel, Respond
Message:
“By developing both emotional and mental self-awareness, you cultivate the ability to respond thoughtfully, rather than react impulsively, in stressful situations.”
We all have those moments.
You’re tired, hungry, overstimulated… and suddenly someone says that thing. You know the one.
And before you can stop yourself…you snap, shut down, or spiral.
Cue the inner voice:
“Ugh. Why did I say that?”
“That’s not how I wanted to show up.”
It’s okay. You’re human. We’ve all been there.
But here’s the good news: those moments are not the end of the story. They’re invitations.
When you begin to cultivate emotional and mental self-awareness - even just a little - you create a powerful pause between trigger and reaction.
In that pause lives your freedom to choose how you respond.
🧘♀️ Mental + Emotional Awareness in Action:
Think of your awareness as having two wise guides:
🧠 Mental Awareness: Notices your thoughts. "I'm telling myself they don't respect me."
💓 Emotional Awareness: Tunes into the feeling underneath. "I'm actually hurt… and afraid I’m not being valued."
When both are online, you're not at the mercy of stress - you’re in conversation with it.
Instead of reacting impulsively, you can respond with intention. With clarity. With self-respect.
💭 Reflection Prompt:
Bring to mind a recent stressful moment.
No judgment - just curiosity.
Ask yourself:
“What was I thinking?”
“What was I really feeling underneath?”
“If I had paused and tuned in, how might I have responded differently?”
Let this be a gentle look back - not to criticize, but to learn.
💌 Today’s Invitation:
The next time you feel triggered or overwhelmed, try this 3-breath practice:
Breathe #1 – Acknowledge the moment: “I’m feeling something big.”
Breathe #2 – Name what’s happening inside: “This feels like anger... but maybe there’s hurt underneath.”
Breathe #3 – Choose your next step: “What would a thoughtful response look like here?”
Even one pause like this can shift your entire day—and your relationships.
✨ A Blessing for Your Day:
May your awareness grow deeper than your reactions.
May you learn to pause not as avoidance, but as wisdom.
And may every breath give you space to respond with more grace, presence, and truth.
