The Four Energy Bodies: What Healing Touch Actually Works With

"So... what does Healing Touch actually do?"

I get some version of this question a lot. People have usually heard the words before — maybe from a friend, maybe from a hospice nurse, maybe from a pamphlet in a waiting room somewhere. But what it is, and what it's actually working with, tends to stay a little fuzzy. So let's clear that up.

You are more than your body

Most of us move through the world assuming we're basically one thing - a body, with some thoughts and feelings happening inside it. Healing Touch works from a different premise: that we're made up of layers, and each one carries its own kind of information and its own kind of weight.

I think of it as four energy bodies, moving from the most tangible to the least:

The physical body. The one you can see and touch - muscles, breath, heartbeat, the ache in your shoulders you've stopped noticing because it's been there so long.

The emotional body. Everything you're feeling, including - and maybe especially - the feelings you haven't had time or permission to feel yet. Grief that got interrupted. Anger that got swallowed. Joy that never got to land.

The mental body. The stories you tell yourself. The loops. The "shoulds." The way your mind keeps narrating your life back to you, often more critically than the truth deserves. The information you learn in school and are tested and re-tested about

The spiritual body. Your connection to something larger than yourself - however you name that. Meaning, belonging, the sense that you're not just a collection of tasks and obligations.

The part that matters most, in Healing Touch education is that these four bodies are not separate rooms with doors closed between them. They're constantly talking to each other. A physical ache can be carrying an emotional weight. A mental loop can be starving a spiritual need. When one body is depleted or stuck, the others feel it too.  Think of how cheering and encouragement helps a runner move, or how what you eat can make you actually feel better or happier (or worse in some cases)

What Healing Touch actually works with

Healing Touch is an energy therapy — gentle, non-invasive touch (or work just above the body) that supports your energy system across all four of those layers at once. It's not a massage, and it's not a substitute for medical care. What it does is help your own system settle, rebalance, and access its own capacity to heal.

In practice, that often looks like quiet. Stillness. A body that's been bracing finally exhaling. People frequently tell me they feel lighter afterward, or clearer, or like something that was clenched has loosened — even when they came in only expecting to relax.

Because it works across physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual layers together, Healing Touch tends to meet people exactly where they most need meeting that day. Sometimes that's physical relief. Sometimes it's an emotional release nobody saw coming. Sometimes it's simply the felt sense, for an hour, of not having to hold everything by yourself.

Why I do this work

I've been doing Healing Touch for twenty years now, alongside a life spent walking with people through grief, transition, and the hardest chapters of being human. Those two threads have never felt separate to me. Both are about the same thing: helping someone remember they are not alone in what they're carrying — body, heart, mind, and spirit.

If any of this stirs something in you — curiosity, recognition, a "huh, maybe that's what's going on with me" — I'd love to talk. You don't have to understand energy work to benefit from it. You just have to be willing to show up as all of who you are.

Honored to walk with you, Erin
