It is no great mystery that we live in a world that is continually beckoning us to engage in activities that keep our bodies and brains in regular, consistent and sometimes constant action. We crave our times of sleep and rest, but even more, we crave the sensation on feeling needed and necessary.
We are called to be a part of the action in the world, but if and when we are not clear about the events, or activities or conversations in which we are invited to take part, then our contributions fall short. When this occurs, we begin to sense that our own presence is less than necessary. But when we find our gifts and calling, when we take part in the mystery and adventure our energy may be renewed and the light of life is re-kindled in us. And that light lead us to re-kindle friendships, or dreams, or adventures that seem to have been put on hold or possibly forgotten.
We cannot hear where is it that God is calling us if we do not take the time to stop and listen. Listen in the quiet, listen between the words of scripture, listen in the moments of prayer. Silence carries a heavy load, of wisdom, or treasure, of guidance.
May we find ways to be aware of God’s word in our lives.
